How we handle your information
Privacy and Terms
DMIA works with families who have good reason to be careful about their information. This page says plainly what this website collects, what it does not, who else can see it, and the rules for using the site.
Last updated: October 26, 2026
The short version
- We never ask about your immigration status. Not on any form, not anywhere on this site.
- You can read every page of this website, including the whole resource directory, without giving us anything at all.
- We only receive your information if you choose to type it into one of our three forms: becoming a member, joining the newsletter, or partnering with us as an organization.
- This website sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics, advertising or social media trackers. We do not sell, rent or trade anyone’s information, ever.
- You can ask us at any time to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Write to dmia@dreamersmothers.org and we will do it.
Privacy Policy
This part explains what information this website receives, where it goes, and what you can ask us to do about it.
Who we are
Dreamers Mothers in Action (DMIA) is a non-profit organization in Virginia that supports immigrant mothers, domestic and care workers, and their families. This website is published by DMIA. In this policy, “we” and “our” mean DMIA, and “you” means anyone who visits this website.
If you have any question about anything on this page, write to us at dmia@dreamersmothers.org.
What you can do without giving us anything
Reading this website is anonymous as far as we are concerned. You do not need an account. You do not need to log in. You can read every guide, open every resource card, use the category filter, and look up every phone number and address in the directory without typing a single thing about yourself.
We would rather you take what you need and leave no trace. That is a deliberate choice about how this site is built.
Information you choose to give us
There are exactly three forms on this website. Each one is something you open and fill in on purpose. If you never open them, we never receive anything from you.
1. Become a Member
This form asks for your first name, last name and email address, which are required, and your phone number, which is optional. It also asks for your preferred language, the city or ZIP code where you live, and how you heard about DMIA. There is a checkbox where you can say whether you want to hear about volunteering opportunities and the newsletter.
2. Newsletter
This form asks for your first name, last name and email address. Nothing else.
3. Partner with us
This form is for organizations rather than individuals. It asks for the organization name, a contact name, a contact email address, a description of what the organization does, and what you are proposing.
If you email or call us
When you write to us or call us, we have whatever you put in that message: your email address or phone number, and anything you chose to tell us. We keep those messages so we can answer you and follow up.
What we never ask for
We do not ask, and you should never send
- Your immigration status, or anyone else’s. No form on this site has a field for it and we will never add one.
- Your A-Number, visa number, case number or any immigration document.
- Your Social Security number, date of birth, or a photograph of any identity document.
- Your household income, your employer, or your bank details.
If you are in the middle of a legal matter and need to share documents with someone, do it with a legal provider who has told you how to send them securely. Do not send immigration documents to us, and do not send them through social media messages or public channels.
Information collected automatically
This website is hosted by Hostinger. Like every web host, their servers keep standard access logs when a page is requested. A log entry typically records the IP address the request came from, the date and time, the page requested, and the browser and operating system reported by the device.
We do not use those logs to build a profile of anyone, and we do not try to work out who an individual visitor is. They exist so the host can keep the site running and defend it from attacks. The host controls how long those logs are kept, under its own privacy policy.
Cookies, analytics and tracking
The pages we have built for this website set no cookies of their own. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising network, no Facebook or other social media pixel, no session recording and no cross-site tracking on this site. We do not show advertising and we do not allow anyone to advertise to you based on your visit here.
WordPress, the software this site runs on, may set a cookie if a member of DMIA staff logs in to edit the site. That affects our own staff, not visitors.
Because we do not track you, there is nothing here to opt out of. If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal, it changes nothing about how this site behaves, because this site was already not tracking you.
Other companies involved, and what each one sees
A few parts of this website are run by outside companies. Here is every one of them and exactly what reaches it.
Baserow, for our forms
When you submit one of the three forms, your answers are sent to Baserow, a database service, where DMIA staff can read them. Baserow receives whatever you typed into that form. It is the only place form answers go.
every.org, for donations
Donation buttons on this site take you to every.org, which handles the donation. Payment happens on their website, under their privacy policy and their terms. DMIA never sees or stores your card or bank details. We receive the information every.org passes to us about the gift, which generally includes the donor name and email unless you give anonymously.
Google Calendar, for the events calendar
Our events calendar loads its entries directly from Google Calendar while the page is open in your browser. That request goes from your device to Google, so Google can see your IP address and browser, as it would for any page that loads something from Google. We send Google nothing about you.
Google Maps, only when you tap an address
Addresses in the resource directory are links. Nothing is sent to Google unless you tap one, and tapping one takes you to Google Maps, where Google’s own privacy policy applies.
Hostinger, for hosting
Hostinger stores this website and keeps the server logs described above.
Each of these companies has its own privacy policy, and this policy does not control what they do. Once you leave this website by following a link, you are on someone else’s site under their rules.
How we use what you give us
- To answer you when you contact us.
- To add you to our membership list, if that is what you asked for.
- To send you the newsletter and news about volunteering, if you checked that box.
- To talk with your organization about working together, if you used the partner form.
- To understand, in general terms, which communities and languages we are reaching, so we can serve them better.
We do not use your information for anything else, and we do not use it to make automated decisions about you.
When we share information
We do not sell, rent, trade or otherwise give away your information. We never have and we will not.
We share information only in these situations:
- With the service providers named above, and only to the extent described there.
- With a small number of DMIA staff and volunteers who need it to do the work you asked us to do, and who are expected to keep it confidential.
- When you ask us to connect you with a partner organization and agree to us passing on your details.
- When we are required to by valid legal process, as described next.
Requests from government or law enforcement
- We do not give information about members, volunteers, donors or visitors to immigration authorities, police or any other government agency voluntarily.
- If we receive a subpoena, warrant or court order, we will check that it is valid and properly issued, and we will give only what the law actually requires, nothing more.
- Where we are legally allowed to, we will tell the person affected before we respond, so they have a chance to seek their own legal advice.
- We deliberately collect very little, and delete what we no longer need, because the surest protection against any request is not holding the information in the first place.
How long we keep information
We keep membership and newsletter information for as long as you want to stay on the list, and we remove it when you ask us to. We keep partner enquiries for as long as the relationship is active. We keep email and phone messages only as long as we need them to answer you and keep a record of our work.
We review what we hold from time to time and delete what we no longer need. Where we need to keep something for accounting or grant reporting, for example a record of a donation, we keep only what those obligations require.
Your choices
Whoever you are, wherever you live, and whatever your immigration status, you can ask us to do any of the following, and we will:
- Tell you what information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete what we hold about you.
- Stop sending you the newsletter or any other message. Every newsletter also has an unsubscribe link.
- Stop contacting you altogether.
Write to dmia@dreamersmothers.org and tell us what you want. You do not need to give a reason, and we will not ask you for identity documents to prove who you are. We will do our best to answer within thirty days.
Virginia’s consumer data protection law generally applies to for-profit businesses of a certain size rather than to non-profit organizations like DMIA. We honor these requests regardless of whether a law requires us to.
Children
This website is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13, and none of our forms are aimed at them. If you believe a child has given us information, write to dmia@dreamersmothers.org and we will delete it.
Some of our resources are about services for children. Those pages are written for the parents and caregivers looking for help.
How we protect information
This website is served over an encrypted connection, so what you type into a form is encrypted on its way to us. Access to form responses is limited to the DMIA staff and volunteers who need it. We keep the amount of information we hold as small as we can, which is the strongest protection of all.
No website or organization can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise. If there is ever a breach that affects your information, we will tell the people affected as quickly as we can and say plainly what happened.
Links to other websites
This site links to many other organizations, especially in the resource directory. Those links are there because we think the organizations are useful, not because we control them. We are not responsible for their content, their accuracy, their services or how they handle your information. Once you follow a link, their privacy policy applies, not ours.
Changes to this policy
If we change how this website handles information, we will change this page and update the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will say so clearly rather than quietly editing the text.
How to contact us
Questions, requests or concerns
- Email: dmia@dreamersmothers.org
- We will answer any privacy question, in English or Spanish.
- If you want something deleted, say so and we will delete it.
Terms of Use
This part sets out the rules for using this website and the limits of what the information here can do for you.
Agreeing to these terms
By using this website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. These terms apply alongside the Privacy Policy above.
What this website is, and what it is not
This website is information, not legal advice
- Nothing on this website is legal advice, and nothing here creates an attorney-client relationship between you and DMIA.
- DMIA is not a law firm, and the guides, toolkits and resource listings here are general information for the community.
- Immigration law, housing law and family law all change, and how they apply depends on the details of a person’s own situation.
- For advice about your own case, speak with a licensed attorney or an accredited representative. The Legal Assistance section of our Resources page lists organizations that may be able to help.
The same goes for everything else on this site. Information about health, housing, schools, benefits, voting or any other subject is general information, not professional advice about your particular circumstances.
About the resource directory
The organizations listed in our resource directory are independent of DMIA. We do not run them, staff them or fund them, and listing an organization is not a guarantee of anything.
- We cannot promise that an organization will accept your case, have an appointment free, still offer a service, or keep the hours, fees or address we have listed.
- We check this information when we publish it and update it as we learn of changes, but details change without notice. Always contact an organization before travelling to it.
- We are not responsible for the quality of any service you receive from an organization listed here, or for anything that happens as a result.
If you find something out of date or wrong, please tell us at dmia@dreamersmothers.org so we can correct it for the next person.
Emergencies
This website is not an emergency service and nobody is monitoring it in real time. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. If you are in crisis, the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline answers 24 hours a day. To report immigration enforcement activity in Virginia, call the PODER VA hotline at 844-253-7882.
Using this website properly
You may read this site, print pages from it, share links to it, and use the information here to help yourself, your family and your community. We want this information to travel.
You may not:
- Use this site for anything unlawful, or to harass, threaten, deceive or harm anyone.
- Try to break into, overload, scan, disrupt or otherwise interfere with this site or the servers it runs on.
- Harvest email addresses, phone numbers or other contact details from this site for marketing, sales or any bulk purpose.
- Submit false information through our forms, or submit someone else’s information without their knowledge.
- Copy the look and feel of this site in order to pass yourself off as DMIA, or use our name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse or are connected with something when we are not.
- Scrape or copy the site wholesale to republish it as your own.
We may block access to anyone who does these things.
Our content
The text, design, graphics and layout of this website belong to DMIA, except where something belongs to someone else. The DMIA name and logo are ours.
Community organizations, schools, clinics and other groups are welcome to print, translate and share our guides and resource lists to help the people they serve, as long as the content is not changed in a way that alters its meaning and DMIA is credited. If you want to reproduce something more widely or adapt it, write to us first at dmia@dreamersmothers.org. We say yes to most requests.
Links to other sites
This website links to other organizations and to government pages. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for their content, their accuracy, their availability, their services or their practices. A link is not an endorsement of everything that organization does or says.
Donations
Donations are processed by every.org, not by this website, and are subject to that service’s own terms. Donations to DMIA support our programs generally unless we have told you otherwise in writing. For a receipt, a question about a gift, or anything to do with the tax treatment of a donation, write to dmia@dreamersmothers.org.
No warranty
This website and everything on it is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. We work hard to keep it accurate, current and available, but we do not promise that it will be error-free, uninterrupted, complete, up to date, or suitable for any particular purpose.
Limits on our responsibility
To the fullest extent the law allows, DMIA and its staff, volunteers, board members and partners are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this website or from anything you did or did not do because of information found here. That includes decisions made about legal, immigration, housing, health, financial or educational matters, and it includes anything that happens in your dealings with an organization listed here.
Nothing in these terms removes a responsibility that the law does not allow us to exclude.
Changes to this website and these terms
We may change, add to or remove any part of this website at any time, and we may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute arising from this website or these terms belongs in the state or federal courts located in Virginia.
Contact
Questions about these terms can go to dmia@dreamersmothers.org.
